1997-2002 ISP bandwidth co-op

Founded by Jay Treble of NJ.ORG and Videotek Enterprises the IPeXchange consited of a 10 Meg feed to
UU / Worldcom In Whippany shared by 8 separate local ISPs with T-1 lines. Back then their were
dial-up modems with hard local "dial-up- pops". From 1997-2002 the co-op saved
these independant COMPETITIVE entrepeneurs over $250K in
IP costs verses a Sprint T-1 connection.

These were the early days of the Internet boom. A comparason to the Wild West is apt and ended up pitting
Bell Atlantic (very scary 800 pounder) against the little guy. The fledgling IPeXchange originally set for
12 participants almost collapsed when two of the ISPs backed out and two others slated to lead
decided to team up together on their own. They raised millions on Nasdaq and are now out
of business. As the Bably Bells opened up their networks the IPeXchange wound down.
and the 10 meg Ethernet feed was taken over by Intac Access. It is still up being
managed by charter member and regional peering ISP NAC.NET.
